Chess Club New Venue - Continued

Chess Club was held at St Peters on Willis Street again last night. We have the venue for one more Tuesday night, 11th September. With regard to a permanent home, the options have been narrowed down to a choice of two, and the overwhelming balance of opinion is in favour of a move to the Wellington Bridge Club in Tinakori Road. We are in the process of submitting the request to the Bridge Club committee, and hope to get an answer back from them shortly. Above is a view of the main playing room (thanks Ross)

There is also a large room upstairs for analysis and friendly games, much larger than the one in Turnbull House, and it is even conceivable that separate tournaments could be run there.

The space and convenience come at a price, both figuratively and literally. The only available days are Thursdays, and I know of at least 2 members who are unable to make this switch. And membership fees will have to rise by $20 per year to cover the increased rent.

We may need to have another look at how we can raise funds for the club. We certainly need to look at ways to increase our visibility and recruit new members. I really think this move should be seen as an opportunity, and if we do end up in the Bridge Club we will have plenty of room for growth. I hope as many of you as possible will help to make the Wellington Chess Club bigger and stronger than ever before!

Sounds exciting I'm going to do everything I can do! More tournaments and more players - I like that a lot. :-)
