B Grade Final and D Grade Nearly Final

The B grade finished on Thursday night with 2 vital catch-up games involving 2 of the leaders, both of whom needed to win to be assured of at least joint first place. In the end Ross Jackson did win with black against Bruce Kay, whereas Layla Timergazi only managed a draw against Philip Rossiter, so Ross takes the title by a half point margin. Congratulations to all involved, it was an exciting and keenly fought competition.

Here is the final crosstable. Note that Don Stracy withdrew from the competition having completed most of his games, but his withdrawal did not affect the overall standings too much, and the top places not at all.

The D grade still has one game to go, but the winners are decided already. Having led for most of the competition with straight wins, Joshua Wight was caught at the last minute by new boy Karthik Konakanchi, who beat Sarah Bennett in his final game.  So congratulations to joint champions Joshua and Karthik. I'm sure we'll see a lot more of these talented young players in the years to come.
