My First Ever Win Against Anthony

This is pretty much the best 50th birthday present you can give to an enthusiastic chess player of modest abilities (no, I'm not talking about Garry Kasparov, I'm talking about me!).
The victory was the product of some careful preparation, spent studying just one game - Forster versus Ker in round 6 of the Summer cup. So I am very grateful to Bill Forster for doing all the hard work! It's by no means perfect, but I'm pretty proud of it anyway.

  1. Well done Ian, a great scalp and doubly sweet to do it with such a fabulous attacking game.

  2. Thanks - couldn't have done it without you! Basically it was the win you should have had in round 6. I noticed that white could get away with sacrificing the whole rook in your game too(i.e. not taking back on h1), so just decided to go for it.
