Matt Veldhuizen has unfortunately had to withdraw from the competition, but, to make up for it, Don Stracy will be joining in from next week, round 4.
I wasn't able to attend for round 3, so many thanks to Andrew Brockway for taking over my duties - it sounds like things ran smoothly in general apart from a couple of no-shows. Most of the games went to the higher rated player, but there was a notable exception in the game Pramodh Konakanchi versus Fabrizio Facchini, especially considering Pramodh is just 6 years old. Although I hear now that Fabrizio may have been "being nice" to Pramodh, whatever that means. I couldn't decipher the only scoresheet that was handed in, so cannot judge the game. Another upset was provided by Pramodh's brother Karthik, who scored a very unlikely looking stalemate against Andrew Sknar (check that out, along with other games, on Bill's excellent website). And finally there was Efrain Tionko defeating Mark Wilkins, but bear in mind that Efrain's 1844 is a FIDE, not an NZCF rating.
